Chike Azuonye

Chike Azuonye, born in Okigwe, Imo State, Nigeria, is a dedicated artist and arts educator with extensive experience in painting and digital origination. He earned a BA in Fine Art from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, followed by an Advanced Diploma in Professional Studies from the Institute of Education, University of London, and a Diploma in Digital Origination from the University of the Arts, Camberwell, London.

Throughout his career, Chike has been recognised for his artistic excellence, including receiving the Best Artist of the Year award from the NYSC in Enugu. He is Vice President of the Nigerian Art Society UK (NAS UK), contributing to the promotion of Nigerian art abroad.

Chike’s work has been widely exhibited in group shows at venues such as the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, the Lethaby Gallery in London, and the Commonwealth Institute, as well as in France and Germany. His participation in exhibitions like “Nigeria at 100,” “Ariya: A Celebration of Colour,” and the ongoing touring exhibition “Legacies of Biafra” reflects his dedication to celebrating Nigerian culture and addressing historical themes.

He has also held solo exhibitions, including “Offspring of the Mind” in Enugu, “Thoughts and Images” in London, and “Cymbals and Symbols” at the 198 Gallery in London. His recent shows at the Waterloo Gallery, such as “Reload” and “Exhibition of Recent Works,” demonstrate his evolving artistic vision and exploration of contemporary themes. His painting Rites of Passage is featured in the ongoing Tate Modern exhibition Inside Job Biennale 2024. Chike Azuonye’s contributions to the art community underscore his commitment to fostering creativity and cultural dialogue.
