Titus Agbara, born in Lagos, obtained his Higher National Diploma in Painting and General Art from the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi. He then embarked on a full-time career as an artist, showcasing his work in numerous group shows, artist talks, private commissions, and solo exhibitions across the UK and various African cities.
Agbara has participated in prestigious art residencies with Professor Ablade Glover and Kofi Setordji under the Ford Foundation scheme. He has also been involved in international projects such as “Imagine Art After” in the UK and has competed in SkyArt’s Portrait Artist of the Year and Landscape Artist of the Year.
Specialising in landscapes and sceneries, Agbara’s elaborate and distinctive technique employs a palette knife, primarily in oil but also in watercolour and pastel. His work reflects honesty and sincerity, inspired by his travels and a desire to influence society positively.
Believing art to be a quest for truth, Agbara explores colour and texture to convey strong emotions and the dynamic moods of his inner mind. His creative process includes experimentation with various mediums and styles, utilising waste scraps of colour from his palette.
Agbara’s approach is marked by a truthful representation of subjects and a strong command of his materials. His paintings are created from the top down, akin to a computer screen refresh, resulting in an expansive mosaic where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. His evolving work is driven by a passion for discovery and the inexhaustible pursuit of artistic truth.
